What is a Typical Day Like?

What is a Typical Day Like?

What we've been reading, watching, and thinking about at Alpine Valley School this week.

At Alpine Valley School we are often asked what a “typical day” in self-directed democratic education looks like. This video is our attempt to answer this question, along with testimonials from each of our staff members. Get a rare peek inside Colorado’s first Sudbury School and see just how amazing learning can be.

Quote we love:

This quote (from Flourishing Homes and Families) really spoke to us this week. Children are meant to behave like children, and while we do have a system of law and order at Alpine Valley School, our job is never to punish. We have all established a Lawbook with rules that we all have to follow (staff and students alike) in order to have the kind of community we all want to live in. The Lawbook is centered on our values of Freedom, Respect, Trust, and Autonomy and when the law is broken, those instances are always evaluated fairly and with just consequences. Children are free to be children.
Set up a tour on your schedule and see if Alpine Valley School might be right for your family!
